First away win for Villarreal

Javier Camunas scored the winner ten minutes from time as Villarreal won 2-1 at Sevilla.

In an entertaining end-to-end encounter it was the visitors who struck first as Borja Valero swept home Jose Angel’s cross on 22 minutes. However Sevilla were level before the break as Bruno could only deflect Jesus Navas’ shot into his own net 12 minutes later.

Borja passed up a great chance to retake the lead and Diego Lopez made fine saves from Alvaro Negredo and Navas after half-time, but it was Camunas who settled it with a sweet strike into the top corner at the end of a flowing counter-attack.

Rayo Vallecano came from behind to beat rock-bottom Real Zaragoza 2-1 at the Estadio La Romareda.

Rayo struck twice in the final 15 minutes through Diego Costa and Miguel Michu to snatch victory after Helder Postiga fired the hosts ahead on 33 minutes.

Vallecano’s win moved them five points clear of the drop zone but their beleaguered hosts, now without a Primera Division win in 14 games, are six points adrift at the bottom.

Dejan Lekic scored 13 minutes from time to give Osasuna a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijon.

In a game played in soaking conditions the opening goal arrived after the only quality piece of play in the first half, as Nacho Cases curled in a wonderful cross from the left that Carmelo Gonzalez just had to redirect past Andres Fernandez.

Gregory Arnolin should have sealed all three points but he somehow headed wide from inside the six-yard box and that miss to prove crucial as Osasuna equalised against the run of play when Marc Bertran’s cross from the right neatly headed home by Lekic.
