Barca’s Afellay set for knee surgery

Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay will undergo surgery on his knee ligament injury on Monday, the European champions have announced.

Afellay, 25, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training a week ago and the Netherlands international will go under the knife at 1400 local time on Monday.

It is unclear how long Afellay, who joined Barca from PSV Eindhoven in January, will be out for.

The midfield schemer had only just got back into Pep Guardiola’s line-up after missing the start of the Primera Division season due to a hamstring injury.
