Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has revealed he intends to retire in December.

Carlos, 38, is contracted to Anzhi Makhachkala until June 2013 and is currently acting in a player-manager capacity, but he is set to take on a boardroom role at the end of the year.

“In December I have the possibility to stop playing,” he told Marca. “After that I will carry on in the club as assistant to the chairman Suleyman Kerimov.

“He has asked me to help create a structure in the club for the next ten years. I am not going because I am injured but rather because my sporting career is already complete. I have been with Palmeiras, Inter, Real Madrid… I have lived everything I had to live as a player.”

Carlos won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil as well as the Copa America in both 1997 and 1999, while his club career is most notable for an 11-year stint with Real Madrid in which he won the Champions League three times and four La Liga titles.
